Review: XO, Blake @AveryAster

TITLE: XO, Blake
SERIES: The Undergrad Years
AUTHOR: Avery Aster
RELEASE DATE: June 9th, 2015
FORMAT: Ebook & paperback

If you think my besties Lex, Taddy, and Vive have had some bad luck earlier this year, cut to me at Glamorama. Last thing I remembered was dancing with Diego and Miguel from my English class, when the room started… spinning. And not in a good way! We got sick. Think Regan in The Exorcist. Taddy was rushed to the hospital. Holding on for dear life, I was carried out by the boys and taken back to their dorm.
Now I’m waking up in Diego’s bed and Miguel keeps staring at me from across the room. I’ve wanted to get into these dudes’ pants since the first day of class. But Diego told me he likes to be tied up and—wait for it—spanked. WTF! The news on TV reports that last night we all got roofied. And Vive just texted me saying that someone is out to kill her. Could this semester get any more bizarre? -–Blake Morgan, college freshman, gay best friend, virgin.

The Undergrad Years is a new adult contemporary miniseries about first loves, independence, and everlasting friendships.

I'm a New Yorker who lives on the Upper East Side. I write THE MANHATTANITES, a contemporary romantic soap opera of full length, stand alone novels, and it's juicy prequel companion series THE UNDERGRAD YEARS.

I'd love to connect with you:

This is the first Avery Aster book I read and it was a good experience. This is a short story about one of the characters of what's meant to be a full-length story. 'XO, Blake' is about this gay young man with a particular exciting group of friends.

Basically, Blake has a crush on his classmate and one night he goes dancing with his friends to have fun but ends up been drugged.

Blake has a bubbly personality and he's very loyal to his friends. The story has super fun moments, and the dialogues are hilarious, it's hard to not laugh at some of the girls and you cannot take them seriously. Despite all the fun the story also deals with some heavy subjects such as HIV and I think the author was smart to include them.

It's a fast story, with all the NYC glamor and more drama than any soap opera.

I think I will continue reading more of this author work.

  1. This is the first I'm seeing this book, much less hearing about this series, and I'm curious. Seems pretty interesting, and i like the premise of the story. I don't read many books set in NYC or about gay characters so I'd love to read this one. Thanks for your nice review.
