I was warned about Tristan Cole.
“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”
It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.
But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.
We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.
Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Brittainy Cherry has been in love with words since the day she took her first breath. She graduated from Carroll University with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Creative Writing. She loves to take part in writing screenplays, acting, and dancing--poorly of course. Coffee, chai tea, and wine are three things that she thinks every person should partake in! Brittainy lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her family. When she's not running a million errands and crafting stories, she's probably playing with her adorable pets.

This is the first book I pre-ordered without knowing anything about the author or the book. However, there was something on the cover that made me want to read it. I don’t know if it was the black and white photograph or the male model or just the title. I’m glad I followed my guts and got a copy because this one is a really good book.

The Air He Breathes is an emotional story about two broken souls and their way back to life. Elizabeth and Tristan have lost their significant others.

Elizabeth grew up witnessing how her mum turned to dating and men to deal with her husband death. So when she has to face the same fate she decides to be stronger for her daughter. Elizabeth has a sweet five-year-old girl with a sassy attitude. She brings a lot of tenderness and funny jokes to the story. Then we have Tristan. He seems harsh, cold and maybe violent at first. But we see him coming out of this shell that he created to hide the pain to become a protective, strong man.

Reading about their loved ones and their death was touching and heartbreaking. The author did a great job transmitting the sadness and sorrow. The atmosphere starts charged with pain, fury and angst but as the story moves on, the air becomes lighter and we can see light in all the darkness.

The romance of course is not easy and sweet. It’s turbulent and dramatic at first. Actually, they don’t like each other but they are what the other needs: a rock to hold on during hard times. They heal together and learn to breathe again. It’s only then that they allow themselves to love.
The ending brings a lot of hurtful revelations that takes us to dramatic and exciting moments. There was a minor thing that sounded forced but still the book has a spectacular outcome.
If you like emotional stories, dark characters and believe in healing, this book is for you.
