Review: Renegades of PEACE @ta_hernandez5

TITLE: Renegades of PEACE
SERIES:  Secrets of PEACE #2
AUTHOR: T.A. Hernandez
RELEASE DATE: July 27th 2017
PUBLISHER: Sanita Street Publishing
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

With her life in the PEACE Project safely behind her, Zira works covertly with Tripp to undermine the Project’s control and begins to see firsthand just how extensive the country’s organized rebel movement is. But when one of their jobs gets complicated, her motives and integrity are called into question. Determined to prove herself, Zira is swept deeper and deeper into the rebellion as she is called on to use her lethal skills once again—a part of her life she thought would stay buried in her past.
Meanwhile within the walls of the compound, Jared grapples with the consequences of his choices as Ryku seeks more power than any chairman has ever had before. His position is further complicated when he is tasked with hunting down a fugitive who has evaded capture for over a decade.
As the chairman tightens his control over the nation in the name of law and order, Zira and Jared face increasingly difficult choices as they each strive to do what they believe is right and protect the people they care for.
Sometimes you must overcome your past to secure your future.

T. A. Hernandez grew up with her nose habitually stuck in a book and her mind constantly wandering to make-believe worlds full of magic and adventure. She began writing stories after reading J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings for the first time at age 10. Thankfully, her writing has improved significantly since then, though she will happily admit that she has much more to learn and is looking forward to a long and exciting journey in her Quest to Tell Better Stories.

She is the proud mother of two girls and a college student working towards her degree in social work. She also enjoys drawing, reading, watching movies, riding her motorcycle, and making happy memories with her family and friends.

In this second installment in the Secrets of Peace trilogy, Zira and Jared have to live with the consequences of their choices. Zira is now part of the Renegades but still has to gain their trust and prove her loyalty given her past as former Project member. On the other hand, Jared still thinks that working for Ryku is the right choice despite the fact that he kills the other leaders to be the only one in charge. And now the Chairman has a superhuman to his service... so get ready for a great book.

We have action since the start, the passing never lose its rhythm and it's hard to put the book down. The story keeps evolving and the characters become more human and real. It's great to see how each one has a role to play. Zira is a strong character and it's easy to like her.

This second book is amazing, I really enjoyed it because there are surprises in every chapter and the action is mind-blowing. I loved the chases, the fights and even the violence in some scenes.

Review: Jaguar @AuthorCAGray

SERIES: UncannyValley #3
RELEASE DATE: December 10th, 2018
PUBLISHER: Wanderlust Publishing
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

The Silver Six have blown the Renegades’ underground compound to bits, killing several of Rebecca’s best friends in the process—and to her horror, the boy Rebecca had convinced herself she loved for all these years was the one to betray them all. At the same time, General Specs, the company Liam was once slated to inherit, has developed a superintelligent robot called Jaguar which is quickly becoming godlike in her omniscience. As the remaining Renegades flee to their last bastion of safety in the Caribbean, Liam makes his way back to London, in a last ditch effort to convince his father to destroy Jaguar before it’s too late.
Rebecca, meanwhile, finally understands her own heart: she never loved Andy. He was merely a ‘safe’ choice who would never require anything of her. Liam, on the other hand, exasperating as he was, had seen past her defenses. All of his teasing and provoking had been his attempt to get her to be real with him—but the more he made her feel, the further she had retreated. She had even substituted her companion bot Madeline for real, deep human friendships, and for the same reason: she’d been avoiding love to protect herself from another loss like the one she had experienced when her father was killed for the Renegades’ cause. Ironically, she only realizes this once Liam is on his way to a similar fate. But she’ll be damned if she lets him go without a fight.
This high stakes conclusion to the Uncanny Valley Trilogy envisions a world not too far off from our own, in which superintelligence is a reality, humanoid bots have supplanted human power and influence, and there are eyes watching and reporting our every move. If humanity is to survive, the Renegades will have to galvanize support across the globe, under the radar—and it will require every last bit of ingenuity they possess. But is attempting to outwit a superintelligent being really the answer? Or will it require something much more fundamentally human?

C.A. Gray is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD), with a primary care practice in Tucson, Arizona. She has always been captivated by the power of a good story, fictional or otherwise, which is probably why she loves holistic medicine: a patient’s physical health is invariably intertwined with his or her life story, and she believes that the one can only be understood in context with the other.
Her favorite fictional tales have always been epic battles of good versus evil, with a strong tendency towards parable. An idealist herself, she has always been convinced that these stories have something deeply true to tell us about the human condition, and that is why we love them so much… or at least that’s why she does.
She still wants to be everything when she grows up. She moonlights as a college chemistry teacher (she has a degree in biochemistry, with minors in Spanish and Creative Writing), does theater when she gets the chance, sings, plays piano, was once a personal trainer and in coffee shop management. She is blessed with exceptionally supportive family and friends, and thanks God for them every single day!

The final book in the Uncanny Valley Trilogy is here and it's everything you can expect after reading the other two books. As we are used to, the book beggings where the previous one ended and we jump right into the action. In a story where each character has a role to play, each action has a consequence and every detail has to be though in advance if they want to succeed.

Rebecca and Liam have to face all kinds of obstacles, surprises, and revelations. He tries to keep her away but she is so stubborn that only keeps coming closer. The book is a bumpy ride not only for them but for all the characters on the book.

I'm not a fan of multiple POV, but this time not only I loved it but it was also necessary. We need to see what each character is doing in the fight to save humanity and if you want to really grasp what's going on you need to see all sides of the story and it totally makes sense. It's easy to get into each chapter and you can feel the difference between one character and other.

I love the world the author imagined and it scares me that it sounds so believable. Artificial Intelligence is not so far away anymore and some of the "fictional scenarios" presented in the book are not so crazy or unreal.

This one is a MUST if you have read the other books and another great addition to Gray's repertory. She has a great writing style, her books are engaging and her trilogies are solid, complete and very entertaining.

Review: Side Effects May Vary @andimJULIE

TITLE: Side Effects May Vary
AUTHOR: Julie Murphy
RELEASE DATE: March 18th 2014
PUBLISHER: HarperCollins/ Balzer + Bray
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook

When sixteen-year-old Alice is diagnosed with leukemia, she vows to spend her final months righting wrongs. So she convinces her best friend, Harvey, to help her with a crazy bucket list that's as much about revenge as it is about hope.
But just when Alice's scores are settled, she goes into remission, and now she must face the consequences of all she's said and done.

Julie Murphy is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dumplin’, Puddin', Ramona Blue, and Side Effects May Vary. She lives in North Texas with her husband who loves her, her dog who adores her, and her cats who tolerate her. When she’s not writing, she can be found reading, traveling, or hunting down the perfect slice of pizza. Before writing full time, she held numerous jobs, such as wedding dress consultant, failed barista, and, ultimately, librarian.

We have read many books about dying teenagers (make it because of cancer or any other disease) but 'Side Effects May Vary' brings an original element to this YA current topic. This time, the heroine doesn't die, in fact, she miraculously goes into remission and now... she has to live with the consequences of her actions. The problem? her actions were not so good.

It was refreshing to see a book where the main character is not all about peace and love and making things better for others because she is dying, no... she decides to make the people that made her suffer to pay for their actions. And if you are an angry teenager with a terminal disease and you think that nothing can hurt you, well... imagine what type of things you will do.

The book is told from a dual POV, we have Alice and Harvey's side of the story and also we have the "Now" and "Then" to build a complete world and understand where we are.

It was an easy to read story with a good writing style. I couldn't fall in love with the characters and maybe that's why I'm giving it 3 stars.

Review: We Own Tonight @AuthorCMichaels

TITLE: We Own Tonight
AUTHOR: Corinne Michaels
RELEASE DATE: September 5th, 2017
FORMAT: Paperback & Ebook

I’m not a one-night stand kind of woman. I’m especially not the woman who has a few drinks at a concert and ends up in bed with my childhood celebrity crush, Eli Walsh.
However, that’s exactly where I find myself.
What’s a girl to do after a drunken mistake? Run. I grab my clothes and get away from the powerful, irresistible, and best-sex-of-my-life superstar as fast as I can. His gorgeous green eyes, rock-hard body, and cocky smile have no place in my world. My life is complicated enough.
Someone forgot to tell him that.
Eli is relentless. Pushing his way into my heart, wearing me down, proving he’s nothing like I assumed, and everything I need. But when my world shatters to pieces, he holds the broken bits together. Unwillingly, I fall desperately in love with him.
He made me think we’d have forever . . . I should’ve listened when he said we could only own tonight.

New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal Bestseller Corinne Michaels is the author of nine romance novels. She’s an emotional, witty, sarcastic, and fun loving mom of two beautiful children. Corinne is happily married to the man of her dreams and is a former Navy wife.

After spending months away from her husband while he was deployed, reading and writing was her escape from the loneliness. She enjoys putting her characters through intense heartbreak and finding a way to heal them through their struggles. Her stories are chock full of emotion, humor, and unrelenting love.

We all have dreamt of meeting the boy from our favorite boyband and having him fall in love with us, I know I have. But for Heather this is not a dream, she has the chance of meeting the man of her dreams and spends the night with him. Of course, this is not a simple one night stand and they will start this cat and mouse game where each one will try to protect their heart.

I liked that they are mature characters, I think that it doesn't matter that they are in their 30s or 40s, when love hits you it's natural to act like a teenager in love. Both Eli and Heather have pasts that make them who they are and their baggage is heavy and hard to digest.

The romance is amazing and the sex scenes are SMOKING HOT, I loved reading them and the pages flew by quickly.

I always enjoy Corinne's books and this one is no exception.

Review: Call Me Doctor @HanleighBradley #newrelease

TITLE: Call Me Doctor
SERIES: The Intimacy Series Book 4
AUTHOR: Hanleigh Bradley
RELEASE DATE: January 15th, 2019
PUBLISHER:  Author Friends With Benefits
FORMAT: paperback & ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

“I’m not the guy for you.”
It’s a sentence I’ve said more times than I can count. It’s usually the sentence that follows, “so, are we...?” or “are you my boyfriend?” or “do you want to come to my sister’s wedding with me?”
I’m not exaggerating either when I say it. I mean it. Every single time I say it.
The girls on the other hand, they don’t seem to like it.
But I don’t really know why they expect differently. I always make it clear from the start. I’m not looking for anything serious. This is just sex. I’m not your boyfriend. I say those sentences and most girls nod and agree or if they don’t like those terms, they walk before anything happens.
I respect that, so I don’t get why they don’t respect my boundaries. When I say those things I mean it but they seem to think that they can change me.
Well to risk sounding like a complete jerk, they’re not that good in the sack.

Hanleigh is a British author. Hanleigh loves books more than nearly anything in the world; whether it's reading them or writing them, Hanleigh just can't get enough. She relishes in the way authors can create worlds with the words they put in their books. Hanleigh absolutely adores Romantic Fiction. She first fell in love with literature as a small child reading Dr Zeus. She then fell in love with romance literature when she first read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Hanleigh is about as English as it's possible to be. She sometimes wishes she could live inside the world that she can create inside her mind, but since that isn't possible she puts pen to paper and shares that world with this world instead. Hanleigh is currently looking for readers to review her books.

Cameron knows he is not made for a serious relationship so he dumps girls as soon as they want more than just sex. Grace has never get over Cameron and wants nothing more than staying away from him. But when a journey to the ER brings them together she wants to run away. However, to make things worst she has to move and her friend offers her a place, in Cameron's apartment.

This one is an easy to read book, with simple characters and all the elements of a romance story. Another great point is that this one is a really short story. It's easy to read it in just an hour or two.

I think the tension and interaction between the characters were great and would definitely read more books in the series.

Review: Say I'm Yours @AuthorCMichaels

TITLE: Say I'm yours
SERIES: Return to me #3
AUTHOR: Corinne Michaels
RELEASE DATE: March 25th 2017
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook

I spent twenty years waiting for Trent Hennington to open his eyes and see me. But it was all for nothing. He chose to keep himself guarded and let me walk away, proving that my time and efforts were wasted.
I’m done being invisible.
It’s time to move on.
A single dance sets my new reality into motion, and I welcome it. After all, Cooper Townsend is perfect. He’s kind, sexy, and attentive—everything a girl could want.
I thought I got it right this time.
That my heart could mend, and I would be happy.
Apparently, some things really are just too hard to walk away from.

Gracie has loved Trent most of her life, but she is tired of waiting. After twenty years of waiting for him, she decides this time is the last, she is done with him for good. But it's easier said than done. We all have been there, so I'm not in no place to judge. Sometimes it's really hard to let go, especially when you love the other person with everything you have. Letting go is the hardest thing if it's the last thing you want to do, but if you are not loved as you wish you were,  walking away is the only right way. Gracie knows she has to be strong and let him go but some greater force keeps insisting on them being together.

At first, I liked the book, then no so much and at the end I really liked it, that's why the 3.5 stars. Corinne has a lovely writing style and her characters are always real and relatable. And of course, the romance and sexy scenes are PERFECT!

I enjoyed the book because is more than a simple romance, it has a few "WTF?" moments that made it more interesting. This one is a MUST for Corinne's fans and if you enjoy romance and HEA you need to read this one.

Review: The Never Dawn @R_E_Palmer

TITLE: The Never Dawn
SERIES: The Never Dawn #1
AUTHOR: R.E. Palmer
RELEASE DATE: August 5th 2016
PUBLISHER: FrontRunner Publications
FORMAT: Paperback & Ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

All his young life, Noah has longed to see the sky he's only heard about in stories. For over one hundred years, Noah's people have toiled deep beneath the Earth preparing for The New Dawn – the historic day when they will emerge to reclaim the land stolen by a ruthless enemy.
But when Rebekah, the girl of his forbidden desire, discovers a secret their leader has been so desperate to keep, Noah suspects something is wrong. Together, they escape and begin the long climb to the surface. But nothing could prepare them for what awaits outside.

R.E. Palmer was born in Solihull, England. After ten years as a computer programmer, he left to train as an Alexander Technique teacher to follow his main interest - sports performance. From an early age, he loved to read and soon developed a love of sci-fi, fantasy and horror. After writing a number of short stories since his late teens, he finally completed his first novel in 2012; SKY. The sequel, Stargazers, came out in June 2013. My latest project is a dystopian trilogy, The Never Dawn - the first book was published in August 2016.

What at first seems another dystopian YA, reveals to be an interesting sci-fi story with a dark tone and mature characters. Noah has grown up believing Mother stories and dreaming of seeing the real sky. Her tales of how they ended up below the surface and why is important for each one to have a role have been the norm under which he has lived day by day. But when he starts to questions things and meets Rebekah, his world crumbles and the discoveries will be mind-blowing.

The Never Dawn is a book that reveals more info chapter by chapter, and every time we get an answer and new question arise. The author took care of every piece of the puzzle to create a world that drags you into it and you want to know what's really happening?

I really enjoyed reading the book and meeting Noah. His sweet innocence and how his desire to know the truth fights against what he was taught was right, made the book worth reading.

HAPPY NEW YEAR (my resolutions)

Hello everyone, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything else than a review.
But a new year is the perfect excuse to write down some resolutions, especially when it comes to blogging.
I didn't read as much I would like the last year, in fact, I didn't complete my Goodreads challenge. And the worst part was that I neglected the blog and the blogger community. My first step was shutting down the FB page for the blog because I never used it.

YOU CAN FOLLOW MY BLOG: via twiter or instagram (and of course Bloglovin and GFC)

 photo 4e75f8db-cdc1-4085-9bb3-fc597125312f_zpssuucraud.png  photo ea2c5b7e-8860-4622-ac9d-782cf5cf6807_zpscjsniwbn.png

So... I decided that 2019 will be a better year for my reading.

Here are my main resolutions:
  • blog more
  • use more social media (especially Instagram)
  • buy more books (I know I didn't buy many books last year)
  • fall in love with reading again!
  • stay in touch with other readers and authors
