Fifteen-year-old Silver Abelli’s life has been as tumultuous as the punk rock she was raised on. Her divorced parents just don’t get along, even though they’re both musicians who stubbornly spurn the mainstream but secretly crave the limelight. Silver has always lived with her mom, Nicola, but when Nicola is diagnosed with a brain tumor, she must go to live with her obnoxious, hard-partying father, Renz. It’s a really bad time to fall in love, so you can pretty much bet that Silver will. Enter Jake Sullivan…
I enjoyed reading about a not so typical teenager that still has all the drama and angst that characterize girls and boys of her age. Silver has a great personality, she is not afraid of being herself and is quite mature for her age and despite the chaos her life is right now she handles things well enough. Of course, falling in love or having a boyfriend for the first time is a whole new experience. Jake is an interesting character, you would expect a handsome teenager to be a bit cocky but he is really a great boy. His relationship with Silver is amazing to read and both grow from it.
The story is filled with music as a key element, Silver got her name from a song for example. And for a music lover like me, I can totally relate to a life that revolves around music and where someone musical taste can define how you see him or her.
There are other great secondary characters, each one brings something to the mix in order to create a wonderful story.
