FORMAT: Paperback & ebook

Six-year-old Akshara watches her mother die. At thirteen, she watches her best friend die. She’s heartbroken, but their deaths don’t surprise her. She has a secret ─ she can glimpse into the future of those she loves. For her it’s not a blessing, but a curse; every life she touches is thrown into turmoil, friends abandon her, and she is overwhelmed by more guilt than she can bear. Then, one day, she sees her own unhappy fate.
Does Akshara bring upon her loved ones the misfortunes they blame her for? Will Akshara be able to save herself after she has lost everyone she loved? Or will she lose her sanity like her mother did?
A gripping, evocative, and sometimes surreal page-turner, He Knew a Firefly follows Akshara as she tries to light the dark, unknown pathways for her loved ones, before being ultimately consumed by the flames herself.

A nerd, feminist and lover of all things quirky, Smita is an award winning short story writer based out of Mumbai. Potent coffee and a good book makes her day. Planning for that one big, decadent trip to a new country, makes her year. She considers herself the sum total of all the places she has been to, like a Lego puzzle being set up, one journey at a time.

Smita cares deeply for women’s issues and her writing usually reflects strong, central female characters. She’s also a fan of page turning intrigue, a genre she calls emotional thrillers and her books reflect that obsession. She has one novella out in the reading world, another full length novel ready to launch and plenty more floating in the dark recesses where they came from.

This is one those books that you want them to be good but somehow it fails. ¨He Knew a Firefly¨ has an amazing blurb and a fantastic start. The first chapters grab you and fill you with expectations of a great story. However, somewhere along the lines, the book didn´t make it for me.

Akshara has this awful gift and it affects the whole story. I liked the idea but the different changes of POV and scenarios confused me a bit and sometimes they made me lose the atmosphere I was getting into.

Overall, I could finish the book because it got interesting for moments and the writing is good.

You can’t stop the future. You can’t rewind the past. The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.

Hannah’s voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out why.
Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah’s pain, and as he follows Hannah’s recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.

Jay Asher was born in Arcadia, California on September 30, 1975. He grew up in a family that encouraged all of his interests, from playing the guitar to his writing. He attended Cuesta College right after graduating from high school. It was here where he wrote his first two children’s books for a class called Children’s Literature Appreciation. At this point in his life, he had decided he wanted to become an elementary school teacher. He then transferred to California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo where he left his senior year in order to pursue his career as a serious writer. Throughout his life he worked in various establishments, including as a salesman in a shoe store and in libraries and bookstores. Many of his work experiences had an impact on some aspect of his writing.

Jay Asher‘s debut YA novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, is a #1 New York Times and USA Today bestseller. In 2017, it was released as a Netflix original series. His second YA novel, The Future of Us, was co-authored with Printz-honor winner Carolyn Mackler. His third YA novel, What Light, was released in 2016. And his first graphic novel, Piper, will be released on Halloween in 2017. His books are published in 40 languages.

Yes, I know I should have read this book ages ago, it has been on my TBR list since I joined Goodreads but of course, I had to read the book before seeing the TV show. I don´t know why I did it but I thought it was part of the experience.

I only knew what the blurb says because I was lucky enough of missing all the hype so I didn´t get to read many spoilers. So, I joined Clay in his listening without expecting anything. I won´t say much about what the book is about because I´m sure you already know.

So, the story, in general, is good, solid and well-thought. I was connecting the dots while reading to see how each character was related. Clay is a great main leader, he is mature enough to handle the revelations he hears and to follow Hanna´s last desire.

I can totally understand why the book had the success it had and why they picked it to do a tv show. In times where bullying and teenage suicide are two current topics we need more people talking about them, not only as prevention but also to really understand what we are talking about.

I read it quick fast because it´s a light book and easy to read.

My name is Lucy Tucker, and my life…it was perfect.

I worked the dream job. I had the most incredible family and friends. My home, Whispering Willows, a ranch in Montana, was everything I could ever wish for. My adoring fiancĂ©, Samuel Stone, loved me unconditionally.

I had everything a girl could ever want.

But one fateful event shattered my perfect life. It’s unimaginable how simple, ordinary words can change a person’s life forever. For me those words were, “There’s been an accident.”

I thought Sam was my forever, but that forever came to a close the day Saxon Stone, Sam’s identical twin brother, came back. Saxon returned to Montana to help save Sam, however, the moment he entered my life, he turned my world upside down. But through chaos I somehow found clarity—clarity of who I was meant to be.

As time progressed, as seasons changed, and as a fire began to burn, I soon realized that Saxon was there for another reason…he was there to help save me.

“Let’s pretend tomorrow doesn’t exist.” Pressing his forehead to mine, he earnestly says, “Whatever happens now, it’ll just be memories from yesterday.” I can feel the tremble rumble throughout his entire body, and his uncertainty leaves me abandoning any lingering doubts. For this stolen moment in time, I just want to…feel.
Gently pushing on his bare, solid chest, he allows me to climb onto his lap as he nestles into the rocky terrain. Without a second thought, I wrap my legs around his waist and hold on tight, with no intention of ever letting go. His chest is rising and falling so quickly, I’m certain I can hear his heart hammering wildly within his body. The cadence matches mine as I seal my mouth around his. The touch of his full lips pressed to mine is complete perfection. But when he angles my mouth at the perfect slope and skillfully tangles my tongue with his, I know that this is nirvana.
The kiss at first is slow, like a roller coaster beginning its incline. But as we reach the pinnacle, it’s an exhilarating head rush of fast, breathtaking passion. When he senses me coyly opening up, lowering my guard and losing myself in the moment, he growls into my mouth. He dominates me with a fierce desire and in this moment, I am his.
I can’t keep up with the frantic pace, and finally, I surrender all I am. I allow him total control, melting when he sucks my bottom lip with a long, wet pull. I madly fuse our lips together, unable to get enough of this heady feeling, needing him to consume me, devour me, make me whole.

Review: Chiromancist @CharmainePauls

TITLE:  Chiromancist
SERIES: Seven Forbidden Arts #8
AUTHOR: Charmaine Pauls
RELEASE DATE: April 25th, 2017
PUBLISHER: Satin Romance
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

Everything is not always as it seems.
Bono Black is not part of Cain Jones’s taskforce. He’s merely their pilot. The minute he walks into a sex club in Amsterdam, he is no longer an outsider to the war on their beautiful target, Sky Val. Bono wants her like he’s never wanted anyone, and he’s a determined man. The only snags are three major obstacles. One, Sky belongs to the most dangerous sex dealer in the Netherlands who’d see her dead before he lets her go. Two, she’s undeniably involved in the murders of a senator and president. Three, Cain has ordered her dead. But time is on Bono’s side. Before the team leader slits her throat, they need information on her boss. With the interest Sky has shown in Bono, Cain decides Bono is just the man for the job, and that seduction will be his choice of arms.
Life has never been good or kind. From where Sky Val is standing, life looks infinitely bad. Her existence is nothing but physical and emotional torture, but one motivation keeps her going. It is a secret she can’t give up on. Bought at the age of sixteen for her forbidden art to manipulate time, Sky’s owner constructed the perfect jail to confine her. The invisible chains he put on her are much more effective than a brick and mortar prison. She will do anything her owner or his boss demands, even make the handsome, caring Senegalese pilot, Bono Black fall in love with her. Love is, after all, a woman’s best weapon when her mission is to steal a man’s secrets.
Every wise person knows things aren’t always what they seem, but the truth becomes muddled in a war where the good guys suddenly seem bad, and the devil like a savior. In an upside-down world full of dangerous secrets and supernatural powers, many hearts will be broken, but only one team can win. Which one of them will walk away with their secrets and life intact?

South African born Charmaine Pauls is a gypsy at heart who likes to look at the world from the lens of her camera. She writes dark and paranormal romance novels. The author currently resides in Chile with her husband and children.

´Chiromancist´ is book eight in a book that presents seven extraordinary abilities and we finally get to the last one. This time the experienced pilot from Cain´s team has to take a bigger role for the team. He goes as just a mere companion to a sex club only to end up hooked by the intriguing Sky. A woman with a tortured past and a history of abuse. Their attraction is so evident that enemies will try to use it to their advantage.

As I always say, this author creates great characters. They seem real and human (of course, extraordinary humans). The tension makes the pages tremble and the passion burns every page.

I really like the Seven Forbidden Arts series because it presents all kinds of people from all over the world. This time we go to Amsterdam as the main scenario for all kinds of action and danger. The only thing I didn´t like was that I would have like to read more about Sky´s ability, we did get to enjoy a couple experiences but a few more could have been better.

This one is a MUST if you have read the other books.

Review: Scapulimancist @CharmainePauls

SERIES: Seven Forbidden Arts #7
AUTHOR: Charmaine Pauls

PUBLISHER: Melange Books, LLC
FORMAT: Paperback & ebook

Sara Graham has no idea what she is getting herself into when she uses her forbidden art to protect the near-extinct elephants and their habitat in the Knysna forest, South Africa. From the minute she sets foot in the woodcutters’ bar, she endangers her life. The gift hunters who would kill for her art are not the only threat. The wood smugglers will sooner murder her than let the National Parks Board ranger stand in their way. Falling for woodcutter and ex-convict, Wayne West, only further complicates matters. Can Sara trust a man convicted of the cruelest of murders?

Danger comes to town with a green SANParks vest and a tight body. Wayne knows Sara is all kinds of trouble from the first time he lays eyes on her in the bar. Alone, she doesn't stand a chance. If he protects her, he will not only be branded as a traitor with the woodcutters, but he may also lose his job, and worse, his land. That is to say if they make it out alive. Even then, can he forgive her for taking the only thing he has left?

South African born Charmaine Pauls is a gypsy at heart who likes to look at the world from the lens of her camera. She writes dark and paranormal romance novels. The author currently resides in Chile with her husband and children.

Now that we got to book number seven in the Forbidden Arts series (if you've read the previous books) we kind of know what to expect, however, this doesn't make the book any less exciting.

This time we travel to South Africa, where the sweet Sara uses her gift to protect animals and its habitats. Her life changes when she meets sexy and mysterious Wayne West. A man with a dark past, an ex-convicted with a rough personality but a good heart once you get to know him. As usual, the relationship is full of tension at first especially because Sara's work goes against Wayne land. A serious of episodes with a group of bad guys will make them closer and Wayne's desire to protect her will grow strong.

The writer has the ability to always create tridimensional characters who look real and have awesome personalities. Their interaction is awesome and it's easy to get lost in the scenes. The passion is hot!!! I can only say: SEXY! my kindle almost burn due to the heat of some sentences.

There were a few revelations that didn't have the impact I would have expected because I sort of saw them coming. The writing style was as good as always. I cannot wait to read the next book.

Review: The Echoes of Love @fieldinghannah

TITLE: The Echoes of Love
AUTHOR: Hanna Fielding
RELEASE DATE: December 06th, 2013
PUBLISHER: London Wall Publishing
FORMAT: Paperback & Ebook
SOURCE: complimentary copy

Set against the breathtaking beauty of Italy, The Echoes of Love is a passionate, heart-breaking romance to ignite the senses and rekindle your belief in the power of love. Seduction, passion and secrets... Venetia Aston-Montagu has escaped to Venice to work in her godmother's architectural practice, putting a lost love behind her. For the past ten years she has built a fortress around her heart, only to find the walls tumbling down one night of the carnival when she is rescued from masked assailants by an enigmatic stranger, Paolo Barone. Drawn to the powerfully seductive Paolo, despite warnings of his Don Juan reputation and rumours that he keeps a mistress, Venetia can't help being caught up in the smouldering passion that ignites between them. When she finds herself assigned to a project at his magnificent home deep in the Tuscan countryside, Venetia not only faces a beautiful young rival but also a sinister count and dark forces in the shadows, determined to come between them. Can Venetia trust that love will triumph, even over her own demons? Or will Paolo's carefully guarded, devastating secret tear them apart forever?

Hannah Fielding is an incurable romantic. The seeds for her writing career were sown in early childhood, spent in Egypt, when she came to an agreement with her governess Zula: for each fairy story Zula told, Hannah would invent and relate one of her own. Years later – following a degree in French literature, several years of travelling in Europe, falling in love with an Englishman, the arrival of two beautiful children and a career in property development – Hannah decided after so many years of yearning to write that the time was now. Today, she lives the dream: writing full time at her homes in Kent, England, and the South of France, where she dreams up romances overlooking breath-taking views of the Mediterranean.
Hannah is a multi-award-winning novelist, and to date she has published five novels: Burning Embers, ‘romance like Hollywood used to make’, set in Kenya; The Echoes of Love, ‘an epic love story that is beautifully told’ set in Italy; and the Andalusian Nights Trilogy – Indiscretion, Masquerade and Legacy – her fieriest novels yet, set in sunny, sultry Spain.

You can find Hannah online at:

'The Echoes of Love' is another great story written by the amazing Hannah Fielding. This time we travel to Italy and in this beautiful scenario, we meet Venetia and Paolo. A woman escaping her past and a man with a tragic past. However, all signs say that Paolo is not the right man for her. However, there is something there and Paolo's persistence will get them together in a beautiful place. It's easy to fall in love with Italy, the author does an extraordinary work describing the landscapes.

The characters are well described, each one has a lovely personality and little by little we discover their stories. It's easy to see why Venetia has doubts about trying a relationship with Paolo, from what people say and what she imagines she creates an image of him that is not the real Paolo.

Now let's go to the romance.. oh! the romance, it's intense, intriguing and breathtaking. Venetia doesn't want to succumb to the charms of this handsome man but sometimes you cannot fight the inevitable. The passion is so amazing. I love the way Hannah always tells her stories and especially the romance part.

I have to say that I loved the outcome, I don't want to spoil anything but I have to say: WOW!, I wasn't expecting that at all. You really surprised me.

I keep loving the author and her writing style. I need a new book written by her ASAP.
