"Delicate and resilient. Like you."
Brina and Eagan meet for the first time when she's nine and he's fourteen. They like each other from the very beginning, though their bond isn't immediate, but it grows over the years. What links them is the fact that their parents are photographers and are extremely devoted to their work and to each other; so much so that both Brina and Eagan have to learn how to take care of themselves from a very young age. Despite their differences, age, gender, nationality - Brina is Italian and Eagan is American - they find comfort in their growing friendship.
Then Brina becomes a teenager, and her feelings for her friend start changing and deepening. New desires stir within her. As soon as Brina realizes how those feelings complicate her friendship with Eagan, she runs away from him.
A few years later, Brina is twenty and Eagan is twenty-five, they find one another once again.
(Recommended for ages 18+, due to sexual content and language).

Brina and Eagan have known each other since she was nine and he was fourteen. As they grew up so did their friendship, however, Brina couldn’t stop her feelings to blossom into more than friendship. Now she is twenty and living in Rome. Life has drifted them apart only to bring them back together.
A Veil of Glass and Rain is not a simple romance story. It’s about the choices we made in our lives and how the consequences chase us to present days. Every single thing we say, every move we make, has a result in the future and Brina has to live with the choices she made in her teen years.
Brina is such an admirable character. I cried through her pain, suffer her anguish and couldn’t breathe while reading about her feelings. If you ever had non-friendly feelings toward a friend I’m sure you will relate with her on some way. The first half of the book drained all my energy because the reading was so intense and the emotions too real. I love when a book messes with your head and shaken your world somehow.
Eagan is not only perfect in a physical way (he is described as a really handsome man) but he also has a great personality. We read about him through Brina’s eyes and it’s hard not to fall for him. That’s why I was so happy when I discovered that we also have Eagan’s POV in the second part (because the story is divided in two parts plus and epilogue and bonus content), those few glimpses into his head made me love him even more.
There is another element that is crucial in the story: MUSIC. For those who love music is easy to understand the power it can have in our lives. If you, like me, are a spectator to the magic that occurs every time you hear your favorite song or witness the world stop when you hear a song for the first time, this book will use that sort of magic to turn music into a vivid element of the story.
The author has a gift with words. She creates a world where feelings and emotions are palpable. The characters leave the pages and become as real as you and me. The descriptions make it easy to imagine yourself in the streets of Rome or any other place. Really, the writing is superb; I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I have to talk about the erotic content because it is also one of the reasons I loved this book. The author creates scenarios where you can feel the tension, the sexual chemistry, the passion. They are not simple sex scenes, they are much more. They are displays of affection, demonstrations of trust. They show how two people can become one in a cellular level. They are about a love that you feel in your bones, in your soul and doesn't leave you alone.
I could say a thousand more words about this book but I really want you to give it a try. I was torn after reading it; it was a mix of happiness and sadness. My life won’t be the same after meeting Brina and Eagan.
