Lost in a superficial world of materialism and social status—and ashamed of her Latino heritage—seventeen-year-old Adelita Noé is loved by two men, two men separated by a hundred years and vastly different stations in life. One man owns little more than the shirt on his back. The other, a poet at heart, is heir to a vast fortune.
Their love for Adelita serves as the backdrop for the Latino girl’s quest to better understand herself and her Mexican roots.

Adelita’s Secret is the story of a seventeen-year-old girl who is ashamed of being Mexican (even though she is technically a Mexican descendant because I’m sure she was born in the USA). The new girl at school is trying to fit in and being part of a community where appearance is everything. But suddenly the past comes to show her that she should be proud of her name and her roots.

The book has not a steady rhythm. Up to the 30 percent of the book, the story was slow, Adelita was really annoying and I was thinking about giving up. However, the book has a huge breaking point, Coronela. Her apparition makes the book take an unexpected turn. She is a great, powerful woman who brings places and scenarios which changed the book. She is the reason I ended up enjoying it so much. I don’t want to give much up but Coronela takes Adelita to a place that will give her a new perspective. She will witness evil in its cruelest form. Death, suffering and love will show Adelita that the world is bigger than she knows.

The descriptions of the event are very detail and it’s easy to imagine the tension and even the calm. The dialogues are good; especially I think the teenagers’ words sound natural and real.

Like I said, at first I didn't like Adelita but once the story moves on, she starts to grow in so many levels that I ended up waiting the best for her. There are other relevant and special characters as her BFF (a funny and loving girl).

As the blurb says, there are two boys that love Adelita. Each one of them is unique, handsome and smart. Is up to you to choose your favorite.

There are only two more things I would like to mention:
One: the author deserves a round of applauses for bringing to the table a subject so fascinating. The Mexican revolution and the Soldaderas are a topic worth studying.
Two: Adelita’s Secret is one of those books whose cover doesn’t do justice to the story. I still don’t like the cover for this book. Trust me it has nothing to do with the story.

Overall, a great YA romance with elements of paranormal in it. If you can read past the first chapters you will find an educational, inspirational, emotional story about a girl discovering who she is.

Format: Paperback & Ebook
Publisher: Tempted Romance

If You Loved an Angel... How Far Would You Fall with Him?

What happens when the daughter of the village priest falls in love with an archangel banished from heaven? Milja’s heart is struck when she catches a glimpse of the preternaturally beautiful prisoner her father keeps captive beneath his church’s altar. Torn between tradition, loyalty and her growing obsession with the fallen angel, will Milja risk losing her family, and her eternal soul, for the love of this divine being? Janine Ashbless will transport you to a world where good and evil battle for true love.

Janine Ashbless is a writer of fantasy erotica and steamy romantic adventure – and that’s “fantasy” in the sense of swords ‘n’ sandals, contemporary paranormal, fairytale, and stories based on mythology and folklore.  She likes to write about magic and mystery, dangerous power dynamics, borderline terror, and the not-quite-human.

Janine has been seeing her books in print ever since 2000, and her novels and single-author collections now run into double figures. She’s also had numerous short stories published by Black Lace, Nexus, Cleis Press, Ravenous Romance, Harlequin Spice, Storm Moon, Xcite, Mischief Books, and Ellora’s Cave among others. She is co-editor of the nerd erotica anthology Geek Love.

Her work has been described as: "hardcore and literate" (Madeline Moore) and "vivid and tempestuous and dangerous, and bursting with sacrifice, death and love."   (Portia Da Costa)

Cover Him With Darkness is a sexy, dark, intense and powerful story about a simple girl and a mysterious archangel. Set in a rustic Europe, this story has a good doses of sexiness, danger, action all packed in a book that you won't be able to put down.

Milja and her father live in a remote place until her father fears her daughter has fallen under the prisoner's spell and sends her to USA. Suddenly, fate and her father's health bring her back home which will cause a series of events that are far from boring.

Milja is a woman divided between family and desire. Her humanity takes her to choose a side that most people will see as the evil one. She is a likeable character but sometimes she can come as too doubtful or naive even. Azazel is hard to describe. The author makes an incredible work creating a being so unique and interesting. He has a human form but sees the world from a different perspective. Of course he is undeniably sexy and handsome but her personality is a bit disturbing. I had a love-hate relationship with him.

There are other great secondary characters. Each one has a defined role and their actions mark breaking points in the story.

Eroticism is always present. The author creates an atmosphere that is almost toxic. The attraction between Milja and Azazel is almost too much for moments. The roughness of their encounters can be shocking for the light hearts but they are not disappointing.

The language is outstanding. The words flow naturally with a steady rhythm that goes faster when the actions requires it. The religion is a good background for the story and the author chose the right elements to create a believable world.

Overall, this is an adictive, seductive and intense read. It has all the paranormal elements necessary to be a recomendable reading. I can't wait for a new installment about the fallen angels.

Review: Evernight @CandaceKnoebel

Title: Evernight
Author: Candace Knoebel
Series: (Night Watchmen #2)
Release Date: October 31st 2014
Format: Paperback & Ebook
Source: complimentary copy in exchange of an honest review.

The stunning sequel to the thrilling paranormal romance novel Everlasting!
One lie will change everything.
Faye Middleton has secured the Dagger of Retribution for the High Priesthood, but in doing so, she’s opened the door to more demands set by them. She now has to break the Holy Seal, and soon. Trapped in the alluring Ethryeal City, Faye is pushed to the breaking point trying to discover just what she is truly capable of, even if it means destroying herself in the process.
With the clock ticking down to the war between both Covens, and the truth about her parent’s mysterious disappearance within her reach, Faye is faced with tough choices that will forever change her. Will Faye be able to handle the demands from the Priesthood, and still be able to continue her search for her parents?
But more importantly, can she survive the truth she finds?
Candace Knoebel is the award-winning author of Born in Flames-book one in a young adult fantasy trilogy. She discovered in 2009 through lunch breaks and late nights after putting her kids to bed, a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. And an outlet for all the voices residing in her head.

Published by 48fourteen in 2012, Born in Flames went on to win Turning the Pages Book of the Year award in February of 2013. In January of 2014, the last book in the trilogy, From the Embers, was released, thusly completing the trilogy. She now works on the Night Watchmen Series, while guzzling Red Bulls and pretending to be a ninja on Heelys.

Evernight brings a new dimension to the Night Watchmen world. This time in the Ethryeal City, things will be more exciting, dangerous, bloodier and even hotter. Faye grows up to be the Everlasting everyone is waiting for and during that process she becomes a bold woman with nothing and all to lose at the same time.

This time the enemies have many faces and some of them are familiar. Faye will have to deal with more than any normal person should handle. Secrets will be revealed and the pain should be too much. However, Faye proves once more that she can be a great heroin. With all her flaws, indecisions, power and strength she is real and very human.

The relationship with Jaxen takes a new level and the sexual tension is electrifying to say the least. Jaxen and Faye are perfect for each other, the way electricity flies when they are together and the love you can feel in the author's words is stunning. I think the temperature rises in the perfect moments; it reaches high peaks and is never too low.

Unlike the first book, this time the adrenaline is always pumping. You can feel the action, the excitement, the fear. The author makes a really good job creating a world where danger is real, the threat is always present and the characters are always on the edge. The rhythm is constant and it traps you into the reading.
The language is engaging. The dialogues are entertaining. Overall, the writing is amazing.

This sequel really shows why this series is so addictive. The author took all the good she did in book one and in the prequel (Jaxen's story) and created an excellent book. I can’t wait for the next book, those preview chapters at the end of the book killed me.

$10 Amazon Gift Card & paperback copy of Spooktacular Seductions
Spooktacular Seductions is the perfect anthology not only for the Halloween time but for every time you want to read a story with a little bit of terror in it.

Composed by eight stories that will blow your mind in different ways, this is a set of unique stories. Each one has its element of paranormal, ghosts, death, angels or just spooky in it. The writings styles are really different one from another so it's hard to say something about it. However, I will say that the authors did a great job creating palpable worlds, likeable and real characters. They achieve the task of making the feelings and emotions real and what's more important the language and use of words is superb. The book has an excelent quality and there are no flaws to mention.

There are some stories I enjoyed more than other, I won't lie, but I found something good in all of them. In Bewitching Gypsy there is a fantastic witch and a good ending. In Garden of Souls the ghost was too gentle and human and it was impossible not to love him. If This Be Madness is really creepy and the perfect example of terror. Ghost of a Chance is sweet, addiction and it's full of action and the ending is breathtaking. Do You Believe in Ghosts is a really good story about forgiveness and moving on. Encantado was one of my favorites, the outcome is espectacular and the characters are great. Where Angels Tread is a story about endless love and angels. This one is really good because you can feel sadness and pure love through the words. Spooky Hollow Café is really entertaining, full of adrenaline and action and of course romance.

Overall, an excellent anthology. Very recommendable for lovers of paranormal and short stories.
