MY REVIEW.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Night Wanderer is a fast, well-illustrated and solid graphic novel. It has good characters, great dialogues and a plot that is easy to follow.

Basically, the book is about Pierre L'Errant returning to Otter Lake, a native reserve, looking for redemption. There is a story going on the background that provides Pierre with the opportunity of having a good last action. It's very simple to understand; an anguished teenager having problems with her father, a boy and an absent mum.

It’s a paranormal story where vampires are real. However, for me the paranormal aspect was not that relevant or wasn’t adequately exploded. It’s always present and you know he is a paranormal being but I would have like to see more scenes of him being as a vampire.

There were things I really enjoyed for example the illustrations, which were amazing. They were my favorite part. The choice of colors seems appropriate to create a really good atmosphere. The gray scale presents an environment where tension and suspense are always present.

It’s a short book so you get to the climax very quickly, the action comes really soon but I it leaves you waiting for something more.

Overall, it is a good graphic novel and I’m sure it looks really good in paperback or hardcover version.

Awakening Foster by Cara Rosalie Olsen @CaraR_Olsen - Review

Awakening Foster Kelly
Title: Awakening Foster
Author: Cara Rosalie Olsen
Release Date: June 22nd 2013
Format: Paperback & E-book
Source: complimentary copy from the author in exchange of an honest review.
If only a pile of wayward curls and the inability to stay on her feet were seventeen year-old Foster Kelly’s most pressing concerns. Unfortunately, stubborn hair and clumsiness is just the tip of it. It was only a mistake, but when at the age of five Foster is told “You don’t belong here” the result is one broken heart. These four carelessly spoken words have shaped and shadowed Foster, and now—a senior at Shorecliffs High School—she seeks the wallflower’s existence, denying herself the most casual of friendships, much too afraid that someone will see what Foster believes is certain: she does not belong anywhere – or with anyone. This reality would continue to suit her just fine, however . . .
Love has a long-standing history of undoing broken hearts.
Like a comet, an unexpected arrival knocks Foster out of the crowded, starry sky, sending her directly into the limelight. Exposed and afraid, she will attempt to regain anonymity; but it isn’t so easy now that someone is watching. He pursues this shy enigma, confronting Foster’s deepest fears head-on, and in the process falls wholly and completely in love with her. But there is something he is not saying; a secret capable of certain ruin. There are two probable outcomes: either he will break her heart once and for all, or he will heal it.
In the end, though, it is Foster who must decide if she is worth mending.

MY REVIEW.
My Rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Before writing this review I had to take a time away from books and the computer because I was left really stunned and empty. I’m sure that if I had written this review yesterday it would have been a mess of thoughts and angry statements. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed a lot Awakening Foster Kelly because is definitely a different story.

Let me start by telling you that this book is about a really broken, complicated, insecure but equally beautiful person. I know most people won’t understand Foster, but for me she is an incredible character, human in so many levels. Maybe because I could relate so much with her I think she is more than the heart of the book. For those who ever suffered from social anxiety, panic to public speeches or presentations, you will see that many of her torments are real and are well described.

This shy girl is faced with a beautiful, honest, charming boy who is there to save her. Dimitri is everything she needs and more. Their relationship is raw, chaotic but sweet and innocent because here you have a girl who needs to learn to love herself before experiencing romantic love.

It’s true that the author uses long, detailed descriptions about everything. From a room to a simple thought or dream, nothing in this book is simple or concrete. I didn't find this annoying or thought about it as a bad thing. For me it felt natural because I have a tendency to ramble in my head and I enjoy extensive sentences about nothing and all at the same time. However, I have to be honest and I will say that there will be readers who will find this unnecessary and boring.

Now, let’s go to the cause of my anger. As I said I adore Foster and I was loving her story up to location 80% (in my kindle) when suddenly the story goes takes a turn for the worse. There is a critical point there (an explanation we have been waiting) that simply feels too weak. None of the thousands of scenarios I imagined could have prepared me for this. But I could live with that, my major problems were the last 2 chapters. My only though was why?? I was so mad with the author about what she did to the character that I almost gave up at 96 percent.

Anyway, now that I had time to come to terms with the book and the finale, I can say that I liked the book. Awakening Foster Kelly is not a book for everyone but is a book that you will enjoy if you are up to the ride.

BTW, I’ve read some reviews complaining about the grammar issues in the book, for me is really hard to find them because I’m not a native English speaker, there were words that I found interesting but they gave the book a nice touch.

Overall, a character with a real soul, a fear of life but with a great a passion for music and helping others is what you will find in this book. A sweet YA contemporary romance with long and meticulous dialogues and scenes.

MY REVIEW.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading Grimnirs I thought this series couldn’t get any better. Boy, I was wrong. Seeress put the bar really high for the next books in the series. Starting right up where we left in the novella, Grimnirs, Raine is dealing with her sick father, her mother gone and her new Seeress role. Being a witch in the training is not easy when you start having visions about someone coming after you.

Fast, exciting and full of surprises this book is everything you expected and more. The danger seems bigger this time and the words are so charming that is easy to get lost in the reading. FYI, I read the book in less than two days. This installment has a faster speed than the others and there isn’t a single moment of peace.

Raine is stronger than ever, she has grown up to be a decided young woman with good intentions and the determination of protect those she loves. One thing I love about her is her attitude toward Torin's overprotective actions. He is really sexy, strong, loving and all, but he is too suffocating at times and I hate when he tells her what to do so I’m really glad that she doesn’t take orders from him. I think is important to portrait a young woman that doesn’t allow his boyfriend to act like a psycho, there is a line between protecting the ones you love and wanting to control their every move.

I have to say that I love how Raine’s and Torin’s relationship is evolving. They have great chemistry and I love how the heat goes up when they get together. I think the author does a great job transmitting the unconditional love they share.

Of course we get to see the rest of the characters; Andris continues being a hilarious guy. I enjoy seeing Echo again, I'm glad he is here to stay. Cora is present too as well as other characters.
The actions in this book come to action at the end of the book. There are a few exciting moments during the book but the good part is the finale. Is similar to what we read in the previous books. Is a formula that doesn’t fail.

Ednah always create real, tangible and completes worlds and this series is no exception. In this third book she writes amazing dialogues, uses references to contemporary TV series, music and movies creating a fresh and engaging story.

If you have read the previous books, YOU HAVE TO READ Seeress, it brings new elements to the series, the characters you love are better than ever. It has humor, action, love, good fights and the promise of more books in the future.

Runes Series Books:

 EXCERPT

I pushed the matter of the witch aside for the rest of the day. After school, Torin dropped me off at the back our shop.

“Text me when you’re done,” he said.

The back door of the store dinged when I pushed it open. Mirage was our family shop. We did custom framing, but we also sold mirrors. Lots of mirrors. Big. Small. Runed and unruned frames. People didn’t notice them or if they did, they just assumed they were part of the designs.

Mom had hired an assistant before she left. Hawk. An Immortal. If Dad knew about him, he’d hit the roof. He didn’t like Asgardians as he liked to call Immortals and Valkyries yet he was married to Mom, a Valkyrie, and I was an Immortal. The irony was lost on him.

Hawk didn’t seem to be around, but Jared was with the one person I didn’t want to see, his wife Celine. The bubbly blonde could drive any sane person crazy with her smothering.

“Raine,” Jared said, waving me over. “How’s school?”

“Busy. Hey, Celine.”

“Oh, you poor dear.” Her beefy arms looped around me in a hug. She came up only to my chin and I had my backpack looped over my shoulder, which made our hug awkward. She stepped back and gripped my hands. “How’s your mother doing?”

“Better. She’ll be home soon.” Mom had left six weeks ago, so we’d come up with a reason for her sudden disappearance. She was officially undergoing treatment at a private institution for nervous breakdown. Dad’s illness had taken a toll on her.

“How are you coping, dear? How is your father doing?”

“Dad’s doing much better and, uh…” I tried to wiggle my hand from the woman’s, but her grip tightened. “I’m fine too.”

“Oh, how brave you are. First your father’s plane crush then the cancer and now your mother, it’s too much for someone so young to bear.” Tears rushed to her eyes.

I begged Jared with my eyes to rescue me. I had to deal with her when Dad disappeared, then when she learned he was ill and now.

“I was just telling Jared we should visit your mother. She’s been so good to us. She’s at PMI, right?”

“No, she’s at a private hospital in Portland and only family is allowed.” I finally freed my hands. “I’ll let her know you were asking about her.”

“Oh, that’s nice. As for you, young lady,” she peered at me, “I want you to know you can come to the house any time, okay? If you need anything, anything at all, call us. Do you have Jared’s cell phone number?”

“Yes, she does.” Jared practically dragged her out of the store. He came back with a sheepish expression. He ran his hand through his thinning hair. “Sorry about that. Celine has a big heart, but sometimes she gets carried away. So what can I do for you?”

“Dad wants a copy of this month’s inventory and tax forms.”

He chuckled. “The person to talk to is Hawk. Come on. He’s in the office.”

Hawk got to his feet. He was a tall man with coppery complexion, straight black hair, and brown eyes that seemed to never miss a thing. He also loved black suits. “Ms. Lorraine, this is a nice surprise.”

“Dad sent me to get a few things, Mr. Hawk.”

“Hawk. Sit, please.” He indicated the chair across from his. Jared excused himself.

“How’s your father doing?” Hawk asked. He kept the pleasantries short and soon shifted to business. An hour later, he’d explained inventory while I tried to keep up.

“Why are you telling me all this?” I finally asked.

He studied me as though trying to figure me out. I stared right back. Most Immortals I’d met were centuries old, so I tried to figure out how old he was. He could pass for a fifty-something Native American man.

“One day you’ll inherit this place, Ms. Cooper, so you should know how things are run. If you like, you could come to the shop and I can show you.”

Mom never liked me working at the store before. She’d said something about my being clumsy because of a few broken mirrors. Now I knew it had something to do with her customers. She hadn’t wanted me around Immortals. Of course, she hadn’t known about the Norns’ agenda.

“Okay. Until Mom comes back.” She’d be surprised. In a good away, I hoped.

He nodded without cracking a smile. “Every day?”

“No.” I laughed. “I have school and homework and… a life. Let’s start with three days a week. If I can stomach all the business jargons and whatnots, then I’ll add a day. If not, then I can say adios and convince myself I tried.” No, I wasn’t going to quit. I was broke. Mom had forgotten to put more money on my debit card before she left. “I get paid, right?”

“Of course. Ten dollars an hour,” he said.

Sweet. “When do I start?”

“Tomorrow. I can show you what you’ll be doing now.”

“Deal. And please call me Raine.” I leaned forward and offered him my hand, feeling more grownup than I’d felt an hour ago. I reached down for my backpack and got up. He stood too. I put the folder with the tax forms and inventory in my backpack, then left the office.

My eyes met with Andris’.
