Quantum Entanglement (Interchron #2): Cover Reveal

I really liked book one of the Interchron series by Liesel K. Hill and I can't wait to read book 2.
The cover is really good.
You can read my review for book one: HERE

Five months after traveling to a post-apocalyptic future where collectives reign supreme and individuals have been hunted to the verge of extinction, Maggie Harper was returned to her own time until the threat to her life could be neutralized. She thought Marcus and the others would return for her within a few weeks, and now she’s beginning to worry.

When travelers from the future finally show up to collect her, it’s not who she expected. With the return of her memories, she wants more than ever to see Marcus again, but a snake-like woman whose abilities are a perfect match for Maggie’s, an injured Traveler, and decades of civil unrest to wade through all stand in the way of their reunion.

Meanwhile, Marcus and Karl traipse through the countryside, trying to neutralize Colin, who’s promised to brutalize and murder Maggie if he can get his hands on her. When a collective woman is left for dead, Marcus heals her, hoping she’ll be the key to killing Colin and bringing Maggie back. But she may prove as much a hindrance as a help.

The team struggles to get their bearings, but things happen faster than they know. The collectives are coalescing, power is shifting, and the one called B is putting sinister plans into action. If the team can’t reunite and get a handle on the situation, their freedom and individuality—perhaps their very identity—will be ripped away before they can catch their breath.

Being Abigail - Review

I finally had some time to do some reading and I had a blast reading about this unique woman named Abigail.
If you like books like Bridget Jones you should read this one. I won a copy of it a while ago on the blog hosted by the author and I'm sorry I didn't read it sooner.

Being Abigail
by Kathryn White.

"Okay. This is it. I am going to kill myself ..."

After a suicide attempt goes hilariously awry Abigail Carter PhD candidate and owner of a gorgeous little kitten named Cedric finds herself stuck with her very own blog.
Before long, Abigail finds herself blogging all about her everyday life; phone calls from the future mother-in-law from hell, visiting a murderous aunt in prision, being stalked by her ex-boyfriend turned cop and the reappearance of Chastity MacKenzie, the girl responsible for her expulsion from boarding school many years before.
And when Chastity makes a play for Samuel, Abigail's fiance of five years, Abigail realises that it is going to take a lot more than keeping a blog to sort this mess out...

Dark and occasionally laugh out loud funny, Being Abigail features a truly unforgettable heroine and a reminder that sometimes the best things in life happen when you're on your way somewhere else.

MY REVIEW.

Being Abigail is a hilarious story about a twenty something woman who after a small incident with his fiancé’s car decides to end her life. But somehow she decides not to do it and ends up writing a blog-journal about her life.

This is a story about who we are and what the world expect from us, about love and friendship, about decisions and its consequences but mostly is a story about life and how it never is what we would expected it to be.

Abigail is one of the funniest women out there, not only she is a drama queen, a bit childish and very impulsive she also has the craziest thoughts and ideas which leads to the most awkward situations and to various misunderstandings.

Sometimes it feels like if she was refusing to grow up but once you get to know her you will learn that she is only a woman who wants to be loved, which is afraid of being hurt and has an idea of how a happy life should be. So in one sentence she is a very relatable character.

Samuel, the fiancé, is a great character too, he is the opposite of Abigail. They’re two sides of a coin, complementing each other and making the other a better person. It was great to read about their relationship through the years.

The other characters are well described, each one with a defined personality, great dialogues and a good addition to the story.

Written as blog entries, which I absolutely loved, the book has an engaging style, a fast pacing rhythm, simple and easy language and a sense of reality. The references to popular series, shows, music, movies or celebrities made it even more awesome.

It also has a solid plot or background, with references to past events the author builds a complete story. A story that seems real, it’s believable because it has happy and sad moments. And also includes really hard situations that made me love the story even more.

Overall, this is a great story with high doses of humor, likeable characters, enjoyable setting and situations.

MY REVIEW.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

After suffering an infernal marriage and losing her brother due to a crash accident, Megan is in the town of Pride trying to heal. There she meets a loving family of two brothers and a sister that immediately take her under their care. The Jordans used to be close to her brother, Matt, they were frequently at his house and shared business projects with him.

As you can expect she finds herself attracted to Todd, the oldest of the Jordans, a widower with a nice body and an interesting personality. Their relationship is typical for a romance, at first she refuses to let him in but finally gives in and the passion unleashes.

The characters are good; they have defined personalities and seem real. Megan is a woman who has suffered a lot; she had to go through imaginable things and has lived really hard situations. Raised by her brother, she ended up in an abusive marriage. Her pain feels real and when she talks about it you can sense the anguish so in general her character and her story are great and believable.

Todd is another story, he is supposed to be the perfect man, the knight that comes to her rescue but his personality is not the best and fails a lot. For me he has serious jealousy issues, I mean he can’t even stand to see his brother talking to Megan. And there were a lot of his attitudes that I couldn’t like or understand.

Lacey and Iian were my favorites besides Megan, they are adorable, caring and I can see them as future leading characters.

As any adult romance it has some scenes with a high temperature. These are great; they are believable, with a perfect timing and a good progression. These moments serve to see a tender and sweet side of Todd.

The book has a fast rhythm in general, good writing and a loving setting. My only complain about the story would be the ending, it was way too predictable. I don’t want to spoil anything but if you are an observant reader you will figure things before they happen.

I would recommend this book to those who like romance and believe in a lifetime love.

MY REVIEW.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Raine is now part of the Valkyries world, what is more, she is training to be one. Trying to put her life back together after a tragedy she tried to prevent, her father coming back and Torin forgetting all about her is not an easy task.

This sequel picks up a few weeks after the last book and goes right to the action. A faster book with more twists and adrenaline than the first one, Immortals has a mature tone and deals with the feelings and emotion in an exceptional way.

The introduction of new characters like Lavania, the unveiling of secrets (like Erik’s real identity) and the Three Norns messing with Raine’s head, make this book impossible to put down.
One of the greatest things of the book is the relationship between Raine and Torin. As the first time, the tension between them is palpable, however, he has no idea of what happened in the past. It’s really engaging to read about how they work things out. Raine has a hard time seeing him and remembering the passion and love but not being able to go right to him because his memories were erased. The romance is much mature this time which is great.

This book also present a darker tone, there is an evil out there trying to ruin the town and some of the characters’ lives. There’s a violence that makes the story more powerful, real and truly makes it a better book.

Our leading lady Raine is no longer the shy girl she used to be. Now that her life and others’ is in danger she has a different perspective about life and love. We get to see more of the other characters, each one evolves at its own speed but they all look real.

As usual Ednah writing style is engaging and easy to follow. Again she achieves to transmit the feelings and emotions, bringing to life complete characters through words.

Overall, Immortals is a fantastic sequel with more romance, action and loose ends for next time.

About the Book.

Fifteen-year-old Therese watches her parents die. While in a coma, she meets the twin sons of Hades—Hypnos, the god of sleep, and Thanatos, the god of death. She thinks she's manipulating a dream, not kissing the god of death and totally rocking his world.

Than makes a deal with Hades and goes as a mortal to the Upperworld to try and win Therese's heart, but not all the gods are happy. Some give her gifts. Others try to kill her.

The deal requires Therese to avenge the death of her parents. With the help of Than’s fierce and exotic sisters, the Furies, she finds herself in an arena face to face with the murderer, and only one will survive.

MY REVIEW.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Therese lost her parents after a shooting that ended up with both of their lives. While she is in coma she visited the Underworld and there she met the sons of Hades, a pair of sexy twins, one in charge of ferrying the souls and the other in charge of the dreams.

Soon she sees herself wrapped in a world where the gods and goddesses from Greek Mythology are real and her life will not be the same. Grieving her parents’ death she will fall in love with Thanatos and will seek for revenge.

The author made an incredible job creating a world where anything is possible, making the magic, the myths and the beliefs real for the reader. She has an engaging writing style and explains in simple worlds the bonds between people, the family trees and all things involved with the mythology.

Therese is likeable character. Despite being fifteen, she is mature and has suffered a lot. At first it seems like she is taking the things very lightly, however, she is the one that explains why she acts like she does and how much pain she is feeling.

Thanatos is everything you would expect from a god. Not only has a killer body, he has the sweetest of personalities. Everything is a new experience for him and is very entertaining to read about it. The other characters, Therese’s friends and the gods are well described, have great dialogues, funny personalities and each one has a role in the story.

In general it has a fast rhythm, a solid plot, great dialogues, romantic scenes, detailed descriptions and a massive cliffhanger at the end. As you can expect from the first book of a series it leaves some loose ends for the next installments.

However I did have a few minor issues with some aspect of the book. WARNING! The next part might contain some spoilers…
The fight between Therese and McAdams was not the best part. It felt slow and lacking action.
The other part I didn’t like is the return of Jen’s father. It’s quite clear that he hurt Jen so imagine my reaction towards the attitude of her brother and the whole family. Maybe in the next book we get a better explanation.

Eden - Review

HAPPY FRIDAY!
It's time for a new review :) I won a copy of this book a while ago and finally I decided to read it.
If you like fantasy books you should read this one.

Eden (Eden #1)
by Janelle Stalder
Eden

Trapped within the cruel world of hormones and bullies, fifteen-year-old Aiden is convinced life has more to offer him. His instincts are proven correct on the night he is awakened by a voice calling to him from outside his window. As he sleepily peers into his yard, his eyes slowly focus on a woman who says she is there to take him to Eden. Aiden is about to fulfill the life purpose he never knew he had.

It is in Eden, a land on the brink of war, where Aiden will finally learn to trust himself and those around him. Accompanied by Wolf, his sidekick Logan, and the beautiful archer, Elisa, Aiden is soon thrust into a battle to save Eden. Meanwhile Elisa, the only girl in the King’s Army, is in the midst of her own struggles. Betrothed to a man she has no intention of marrying, Elisa is caught between the need to prove herself and her desire for true happiness. And now that she has met Aiden, she is more confused than ever.

MY REVIEW.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

What if you discover there is another world where magical creatures, knights and a medieval lifestyle are real? And what if you were the key to save a whole kingdom?

Aiden is a common teenager boy with nothing very special about him and living an ordinary life. One night he travels to the world of Eden, a world with two moons and at the edge of war. When the king died he declared his older son as the rightful heir but his younger brother was not too happy with this. Ten years later the war is about to happen and Aiden will be the secret weapon to defeat the enemy army.

Eden is a fantasy with all the ingredients of a YA book and the characteristics of every other fantasy book. It has a smooth rhythm complemented by an easy writing style and likeable characters. The fight scenes as well as the training are well described, entertaining and the best part of the story.

There are two characters Elisa and Wolf, each one with a defined personality, who have an interesting dynamic. They have a love-hate relationship but you can feel there is more below the surface. There are few scenes where we can read about the tension between them and it would have been good if we could see more of the development of their relationship. And Elisa always treats Aiden as a younger brother but he likes her in a more romantic way. However, for the blurb you get the idea that she is confused about her feelings but reading the story this never happens.

The multiple point of view was another good thing. It allows us to read about both flanks and get a better view of the whole picture.

There were a few things that were pretty obvious or too cliché for me like the girl falling for Callum, the younger brother. It was way too predictable how their relationship would be.

The ending is kind of abrupt and it felt hurried. I don’t want to spoil nothing but I expected more.
