Forgotten in Darkness (Scimitar Magi #2)
by Zoe Forward
Archaeology grad student, Shay McGinnis, suffers a near-death attack in pursuit of a piece of Scimitar Magi lore. But did the magnificent warrior who pinned her to the wall injure her or the daemon he fought? In her search for answers, she draws the attention of both an ancient evil sorcerer and the warrior Dakar. The attraction between her and Dakar is instant, and for Shay confusing. She wants to be with him, but intuition equates him with death. Not random death. Hers.
Will this be the lifetime they break the curse before they are murdered by an age old enemy or worse kill each other yet again?
*Warning: Contains explicit sex, graphic language, action-adventure, and an exceptionally hot tatted hero.*
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Book two in the Scimitar Magi is slightly different from the first. Another paranormal romance that deepens into the world created by Zoe and leaves you waiting for more.
This time we have Dakar, an ancient Magus released from purgatory after spending the last two centuries there. With all his memories and a curse at his back, he is back ready to face the demons and love. Shay, an archaeology grad student who is not afraid of getting her hands dirty, gets too close to the legends and ancient religions she study when a demon attacks her and she is saved by a mystery man.
After their first encounter we have to wait a lot of chapters for them to be reunited. This for me was a thing that put the book on a slow level. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of action, explosion, fights and adrenaline runs through those chapters but the sexual tension is almost non-existing. Luckily, the waiting is rewarded with lots of pages full with the kind of romance we like.
Dakar and Shay are amazing characters, with so many layers that is easy to picture them as real. They also have a past in common, which is incredible described and created. The author does an outstanding work writing about the ancient Egypt and the gods. The words flow naturally and the language is engaging and easy to read.
One of the best parts is the apparition of the different deities. They really like to have fun messing with everyone’s lives and they are not ashamed of it.
Another good thing is that we still get to read about the characters we felt in love the first time (Ashor and Kira). Mainly is the story of a new magus but he is part of a bigger world and I loved how the author joins their stories.
Overall, the sequel is everything you would expect. The magi continue being sexy, strong, brave and hot. I can’t wait for their next adventure.
