LUMINAIRE (Florence Waverley # 2)
by Ciye Cho

Being the only human in a world of merfolk... isn't easy. Florence Waverley chose to stay in Niemela, but things have gone awry. Secrets have risen and the prince she cares about has pulled away. All the while, dark dreams warn her of a tragedy that only she can stop. But in order to save the merman she loves, Florence will have to enter the Life Path tournament: a brutal test of fear and madness.
The tournament is a rite of passage--a maze where young mermaids and mermen battle to find their purpose. It is also a place where Florence will face grave danger: mermaids with evil magic, tunnels filled with sea fire, and guardians who wish to use her as a pawn in their secret plans. But will Florence be strong enough to survive the tournament... or will she perish inside it?
Everything hangs in the balance: her life, her world, and her love.

****
MY REVIEW.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Luminaire is the perfect sequel in the adventures of Florence. After seeing this young girl discover the wonderful world of Niemela, now in book two we see her confront the scariest creatures and discover her place in the mermaids’ world.

Florence has decided to stay in Niemela. Ron is avoiding her and she feels more out of place than ever. And now she has offered to enter the Life Path tournament just to help Yolee.

The Maze where the tournament takes place is the ultimate test for Florence fears. There she- among the other novices- has to face the Darkness and some evil mermaids. All the chapters that tell the adventures inside the Maze are really intriguing, full of action and danger. All of these facts make it hard to put the read down.

In Luminaire we get to know more about Florence’s past and we see more sides of her personality. It is really easy to love her and feel relate to her. She is just a really strong, beautiful and loving girl living in a different place.

Rolan is still learning to be the King and the weight of this position is hard to bear. The feelings he has for Florence are totally new for him and are part of the greatness of the book. Their relationship is evolving and is good to see how they both deal with it.

Two new characters appear in this book, Wynn and Marilenna that complete the group along with Florence and Yolee. They are so funny and totally opposites. Wynn is a sweet, intelligent guy and Marilenna is a tough girl with a big attitude. And Yolee continues being the most adorable girl in the books.

The thing I love the most about this series is how well described the bottom of the ocean is. You can picture the colors, the forms, the variety of life and even the smells. Ciye Cho has the ability to put into words a fantastic world that never ceased to amaze you. Everything seems real and is easy to immerse in an exciting realm.

A fast and thrilling book with a rollercoaster of emotion that will leave you waiting for more.
